Greenwich College Student Services
Greenwich College offers a number of student services to its students to ensure that they adjust well to life in Sydney and that they develop academically and socially during this time. The staff and English teachers at Greenwich College are committed to providing the best possible experience for their students both in and out of the classroom.
Academic Counselling
Greenwich College offers students a diverse selection of courses and programs of study to make it easy to select a course that suits their needs. Our staff will work with you to choose a program that will help you reach your academic goals.
Many of our English students go on to further study in Australia via our pathways programs that include Foundation, Diploma, Bachelor and Master Degree programs. Greenwich College regularly hosts seminars and information sessions presented by educational institutions so students can access useful information about further study. We also provide individual counselling to students to guide them to the best study alternative.
Job Assistance
Students studying in Australia may be eligible to work part-time in order to support themselves during their stay and as a way to earn some extra money. Holders of Student Visas can apply for rights to work up to 20 hours per week while they study and full-time during their holidays. Students that hold Working Holiday visas can work any number of hours per week provided that they do not remain employed with any single employer for over 6 months. Find out more about working rights and visas at the Department of Immigration.
Most students choose to work in Hospitality (bars, restaurants, cafes etc). Any work that requires the sale of alcohol requires you to hold a special RSA licence. Greenwich College runs short one-day programs to help with this. Find out more about RSA courses at Greenwich College.
Greenwich College’s Student Services Officer can help prepare students for their job search in Australia. Specifically, we can help students with:
- Tax File Number applications;
- Opening a bank account;
- CV and cover letter preparation
- Finding job channels in Australia
- Job interview preparation
Many students find the advice they receive valuable as the expectations, processes and customs that Australian employers have could be very different from those in their own countries.
Accommodation – homestay
Greenwich College can help set students up in homestay accommodation for when they arrive in Australia. Homestay arrangements allow for students to stay with an Australian household and can be a great way to get a bit of a feel for the local Australian culture. Homestay costs will cover accommodation, breakfast and dinner and can often include internet access. Greenwich College also offers airport pickup to take you directly to your homestay home.
If you’re interested in learning more about homestay options, just tick the appropriate box on the enrolment form.
