Opera House
The Opera House is one of the most famous buildings in the world and is located about 1.5 km from Greenwich College. Inside there are four large halls: a concert hall , an opera theatre, a movie theatre and an art gallery. Construction of the Opera House began in 1957 and was finished in 1973.

Blue Mountains
The Blue Mountains are a beautiful and amazing place. There are waterfalls, rivers, rainforests, gullies and escarpments, as well as many animals and plants. The forests have never been cut and some parts of the Blue Mountains have yet to be fully explored. The Blue Mountains National Park adjoins the Wollemi National park and the Kanangra Boyd National park; together they are one of the largest natural areas in New South Wales.

Taronga Zoo
Taronga Zoo is a large park with many trees and animals. The animals at Taronga zoo have some of the best views of the Harbour in Sydney. At the zoo you can see: koalas, kangaroos, penguins, seals, elephants, giraffes, gorillas, monkeys, lions and tigers. To get to Taronga Zoo from Greenwich you take a ferry across the harbour, the trip takes about 20 minutes. The zoo is open everyday.

Sydney Aquarium
The Sydney Aquarium contains over 5000 kinds of fish and sea creatures. There are two main exhibitions, the Pacific Ocean exhibition and the Tropical exhibition. The Pacific Ocean exhibition has many kinds of fish and 3 metre long sharks! While the Tropical Exhibition, has many kinds of coral, fish and large crocodiles. You can also walk under the Sydney harbour, with the water and the fish all around you. The Sydney Aquarium is located in Darling Harbour, about 20 minutes walk from Greenwich College.

Beaches
Sydney has dozens of beautiful beaches. If you visit Sydney you should see Bondi and Manly beaches. If you live here, then you should visit some of the other beaches like: Coogee, Tamarama, Maroubra, and Clovelly. You should also swim in the natural rock baths cut into the rocks all around Sydney. All Sydney beaches are free and the lifeguards (the first in the world) are as famous as the beaches. You can swim and surf anytime but the water gets warm in November to April. You can get to all these beaches by public transport in about 30 minutes from Greenwich.

Saturday Explorers Club
Twice a month Greenwich College organizes extra activities for students who want to experience different things while they are in Sydney. The Explorers Club also provides students with the opportunity to practice their English, as well as see the sights.

There are lots to do and see around Sydney and the Explorers club organizes different kinds of activities, from picnics and walking tours to sporting events and outdoor sports. Prices vary according to the type of activity undertaken but there is always something for every interest and budget. You may need to book ahead for some of the activities, as there are limited places on some events, like the camping trips. A sample of the activities is listed below.
